What is this
X-ban?

The Pride of a Victirous Journey.

The inaugural ‘84 Science Exhibition organized by the Science Section of Gampaha Bandaranayake College marked a significant milestone as the first-ever science exhibition held within the Gampaha Education Department. Under the leadership of Principal Premasena Udugampola, the 1984 Science Exhibition successfully showcased the students' skills and talents, introducing the culture of science exhibitions to the Gampaha Education Department's jurisdiction. This visionary step by Gampaha Bandaranayake College bore fruit five years ago with the creation of the monumental X-ban '18 Education, Science, and Technology Trade Exhibition. Transforming the Information Age into a playground, overcoming challenges and obstacles, it strides towards the future world with a captivating style. After the 1984 Science Exhibition, the organization of "X-ban 2018" has further strengthened the educational journey of the college, which is celebrating its centennial anniversary, spreading a fragrance of blooming flowers during this springtime. The statement made by the Minister of Education Mr.Lalith Athulath Mudali after observing the X-ban 1993 Exhibition was highly insightful: "Nothing should be banned within 'X-ban,' rather everything in it must be seen." This bold statement reflects the comprehensive representation of educational, scientific, technological, and commercial sectors presented in the "X-BAN" exhibition since the 1984 Science Exhibition. These were creatively showcased, relevant to the contemporary global and societal context.

We at the Media Unit

Message from BCMU

Along with the school announcement section received a radio from the Department of Education On July 11, 1936, The beginning of the college’s Media unit is marked in gold. Then, the school journalists of Gampaha Bandaranaike College, who got a good support for their journey, are able to take new steps in their school media journey day by day in the media unit of Gampaha Bandaranaike College that started like this. After that, in the year 1943, a re-opening as a newspaper forum takes place as a unique juncture in its journey In this way, at a time when they were looking for new areas of journalism in a journey that they were building on their own, on September 17, 1993, in conjunction with the X-BAN exhibition held for the college's 75th anniversary, for the very first time in the island, school journalists started radio broadcast, being mixed to the Sri Lankan airwaves through the radio frequencies of 103.1 and 96.1 under the name of "Siyanasara" by giving a warm competitive touch to school journalism. without stopping there, in the year 2008, in conjunction with the island's biggest exhibition, “The X ban”, start of second television channel "Sianye Roo" television broadcast was also a great effort to take school media art to a new aspect. In 2009, we, the school media unit, were able to broadcast their inter-house sports event live on the Internet for the first time, bringing a new revival to the art of school media. And in the same year, the "Most ven. Labutale Sudassana Challenge Championship" also marks the beginning of challenges as a challenge to a challenge. Also, at the X-BAN exhibition held in the year 2013, “Sianaeru” TV broadcast through IPTV technology and “Sianaeru” radio broadcast and “Sianaeru” TV broadcast through an ANDROID and IOS application caught the eyes of the people of Sri Lanka adorning the name of the media unit with gold. And in 2014, we were awarded as the most popular school media unit in Sri Lanka in The Most Popular Media Unit competition organized by “Clean & Clear”. In the year 2015, for the first time, our journalists are able to conduct the biggest school media competition in the island the "ABIYOGA 2015" all-Ceylon media competition at three locations covering all the provinces of the island. And again in the year 2018, at the X-BAN exhibition held in conjunction with Bandaranaike's centenary celebration, Bandaranaike journalists were able to carry out “Sianaysara” radio broadcast and “Sianeru” television broadcast in a very successful manner using all the techniques available to Sri Lankan media at that time, repeatedly updating the record we set at the X-BAN show in 2013 for the most successful TV and radio broadcast ever held by a school. Also, in the year 2020 organized by All Island School Media Units, we are awarded as the most popular school media unit in the island, surpassing all schools in the island in THE MOST POPULAR SCHOOL MEDIA UNIT competition. Also, in the year 2021, we were able to hold the “ABIYOGA 2021” All-Island Inter-School Tri-Language Media Competition online for the first time with the support of the Government Information Department and the Ministry of Mass Media. In the year 2022, we were able to bring the opening ceremony of the sacred “CHAITHYA” which were newly built in the college grounds, closer to the people as a live telecast. According to the previous experience, "ABIYOGA 2022" All-Island inter-school trilingual media tournament and media day will be held in the college grounds very successfully in the year 2022, bringing "pure encoding of meaningful communication" to school journalists. Not only that, in the "Heesara" inter-school trilingual media tournament which was held for the first time by Gotami Girls' College in 2023, we won the overall tournament championship from over 500 participating schools from all over the island, and "Mora Lenz" photographs and media competition by the University of Moratuwa and in the announcement competition, our journalists were among the ten most talented announcers, including the creative photo and the most popular photo of the school division, the most talented announcers, the most talented technicians, the most talented graphic designers and the most talented editors in many media competitions held by various schools and institutions that year. Many of them were crowned to the school by the year 2023, leaving notes in golden letters in the annals of the school media that they are the best of the island. Staying in the role of the school from that day till now, contributing closely to its every task, we are renewing the recent media genealogy again and again, stepping forward with the technological world, mixing the most special events held in the school live on the Internet and dominating various social media. Among those, the media unit of Bandanarayake Collge has particularly played a massive role. The telecasting of a professional TV channel and broadcasting a radio channel in Xban exhibitions are imperative to mention. So in the upcoming Xban 2024 also we, as the media unit of Bandaranayake College are ready to an unique experience to our exhibition viewers. Media unit of Bandaranayake College holds a great reputation to make viewers impressed. We as the media unit has prepared 3 key elements and few sub elements for the exhibition. First up Siyana Roo television channel which telecast through Peo TV, FreeSat, YouTube and Facebook is prominent. As a television channel completely operated by school students Siyanaroo TV channel has attracted large aundinces and popularity due to its professionalism. Since 2008, “Siyana Roo” has been uplifting the standards of school media and once again in Xban 2024 we are supposed to do the same through our advanced technology, strategies and commitments thus giving an unmatched viewer experience. Not only that we are also ready to broadcast our Siyanasara radio channel throughout the island bringing Xban 2024 more closer to the public. Furthermore, we are ready to make this Xban closer to the city through our PA system throughout the town. We also planned to showcase our TV studio and the radio studio to the public in the exhibition in order to make the public more aware of the behind the scenes of a professional telecast.
